Describe your current read in five words
Hm… “magical, clever, sexy, intriguing, and FUN.” I’m only a few chapters into Freya Marske’s A Marvellous Light, and it’s already captured my heart, as I knew it would.
What is your go-to comfort genre?
Depending on my mood, I’ll either reach for the classics (Anne of Green Gables, Persuasion, etc.) or for some good ol’ historical romance with lots of drama.
What’s your favourite song at the moment?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Debbie Reynolds lately, and there are many I love, but “You Won’t Be Satisfied” is near the top. The arrangement is gorgeous, and Debbie’s performance is spectacular — just enough lilt and color to show off her pipes while also bringing out the best in the melody.
What’s been your favourite read of 2022 so far?
Hands down, The Siren of Sussex by Mimi Matthews. I read it at the beginning of the year, and five months in, it’s still uncontested.
Is there one book that you would do anything to get a special signed edition of?
Honestly… no? But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t die of happiness if I got a signed Victoria Thompson or James Hilton, but it’s not a priority.
What’s a disappointing book that you’ve recently read?
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. Ugh. It had some good points but ended up a hot mess. And I read the updated edition? My rage and disappointment are entirely proportional to my expectations.
How long have you been blogging?
A little over a year on this blog, but I had a film blog through most of high school. It’s been fun getting back into it — and meeting a new community!
What are some of your favourite tropes?
So many! I love tropes! The classic Scarlet Pimpernel setup always works for me — foppish aristocrat with a secret, dashing identity. I also love when a character makes up a significant other (or anyone, really) and then someone shows up and assumes that identity (I blame Remington Steele for my fascination with that one).

Is there a (sub)genre that is an absolute no-no for you?
Student-teacher romances. Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope. Hard pass, no exceptions.
If you could visit one fictional world, where would you go?
I want to live in the Shire, reveling in sunshine and green grass and enjoying cozy nights by the fire with tea and toasted cheese. What could be better?
Name five characters you would love to spend a day at a theme park with!
I think I’d like to go with the crew from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I’ve always wanted to be part of their group, and I could trust them to make the decisions when I’m overwhelmed by all the theme park noise and activity. And there would always be someone to sit with quietly if I don’t want to go on a ride or play a game.
I TAG: You! If you’re blogging and sharing what you love, you’re spreading sunshine and deserve this award. 🙂
MY QUESTIONS
- If you could only read author for the rest of your life, who would it be?
- Do you have a favorite reading spot?
- What made you fall in love with reading? Was it a specific book, an event, a family member?
- What’s your favorite period for books? (For example, Victorian literature, 1920s American lit, etc.)
- Which fictional character do you want as your best friend?
- If you could be a character in one of your favorite books and live through all the events of the novel, which book would you choose? Would you usurp a main character or be someone new?
- What’s a book you’ve always wanted to read but haven’t gotten to yet?
- What’s a book you loathe with every cell in your body?
- Do you read one book at a time or several?
- Do you have a go-to book for recommendations?
- Tell us about your hobbies! Aside from reading, what else makes you happy?

I read Mimi’s John Eyre earlier this year and loved it. I definitely need to check out The Siren of Sussex.

John Eyre is still on my to-read list, but I’m looking forward to it! Matthews never disappoints.
