It’s another light reading week, but what a good one! Three new-to-me books are going directly onto my list of favorites I’ll reread again and again. The cool weather continues in my area, and I’m loving curling up under the blankets with a cup of tea and a good book. I hope this trend continue, in reading and in temperature!
Penric’s Demon (Penric & Desdemona #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold: I haven’t read the World of the Five Gods series yet, so this novella served as my introduction to the world but mainly to Penric and Desdemona. I found them both incredibly charming, and I’m already fascinated by their relationship, which is — rather unusually, I gather, for demons and riders — one of mutual care and respect. I’m already looking forward to more, but I’m going to try to pace myself. After seeing me with Bujold’s Vorkosigan series, I’m sure you know how difficult that will be!
This Rough Magic by Mary Stewart: Wonderfully atmospheric, This Rough Magic makes the island of Corfu come to life and keeps you on the edge of your seat with a finely plotted mystery. I was drawn in from the first pages and beside myself when I had to put it down for a shift at work! This was my first Stewart novel, and I love her way with description, character, and dialogue. Definitely a new favorite and a worthy addition to my bookshelf!
The Jilter (A Series of Worthy Young Ladies #5) by Kate Archer: My new favorite in a series of favorites! Archer never fails me with her frothy comedy and sweet romances, but The Jilter surpasses them all, with a solid comedy-mystery plot and a truly swoonworthy romance. Truly, I can’t say enough good things. My thanks to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
