Reading Roundup #96: Love & Other Books

We’re keeping it short and sweet today with two romances (or 4, if we’re counting the novellas within the collection separately) and another entry in Jim Butcher’s high fantasy Codex Alera series. For this intro, though, I really want to focus on the first two books, which are funny and fluffy and all the things I wanted after a long week. If you need a romcom that won’t let you down, definitely check these out!

Love and Other Flight Delays by Denise Williams: A collection of novellas taking place in an airport, Love and Other Flight Delays is a funny and swoony book about taking chances and getting your timing right. I loved all three couples for different reasons, and by the end, I felt like I knew this airport and the people who worked there and passed through it every day. Wholeheartedly recommend. My thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Neighbor Favor by Kristina Forest: This was such a sweet, heartfelt romcom. It’s a classic setup – falling in love via email with someone you then meet in real life but only one of you knows it – and it hits all of the beats you’d expect from that. It may not reinvent the wheel, but as romance readers know, sometimes you want all those familiar beats, you want to just focus on the fun and the swoon without worrying about plot because you know it’s all going to be okay. If I had one complaint, it would be that the initial falling-in-love was too fast for me, but once Lily and Nick start falling IRL, I felt every heartbeat. My thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cursor’s Fury (Codex Alera #3) by Jim Butcher: If I liked the first two books in the series, I loved this one. All the chess pieces are in motion, and it’s hard to put it down for silly things like sleep when the tension just keeps going higher. My favorite thing in these books continues to be Butcher’s writing of Tavi, whose development from country boy to leader of men is believable and so so satisfying. And yes, I’ve already started the next book! I must know what happens!

What’s on your reading stack this week? Are you being adventurous or sticking to comfort reads?
